PA and Pot Noodles

In 2013 Packaging Automation celebrates its 50th anniversary. One of the pivotal events in the company’s history took place in 1977, when Golden Wonder approached PA to ask for help packing the Pot Noodle.

Seeing the opportunity to capitalise on what was potentially a risky investment for Golden Wonder, Anthony Penn, the company’s current chairman took a gamble and offered to build several machines that could be hired by Golden Wonder, hence reducing the financial outlay and risk in the product launch.
This was the beginning of a fabulous business concept that is now well established in the tray sealing industry. Machinery hire remains an important facet of PA’s business, allowing many small and large businesses to make use of packaging machinery with minimal investment.

In fact the machine that was designed in 1977 for Golden Wonder was the rotary table PA182 sealer, which has been updated with new technology since then but still forms the core of the PA hire fleet today.
