Knutsford based Packaging Automation (PA) the leading manufacturer and exporter of specialist food packaging machinery received national recognition for its long established apprenticeship scheme this week when employee electrical engineer Christopher Eckert was named the UK’s top apprentice at the Semta Skills awards.

Freshseal, the latest pack format for tomato, berry and fresh produce packing is now available in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Developed jointly by an Anglo Canadian partnership this technology offers the fresh produce market a quick and easy means of transitioning into film sealed punnets and trays from clam shell or flow wrapped packs. Film sealed packs use less packaging than clam shell packs and are more space efficient for stacking and transportation resulting in cost savings. They also offer the ability to use packaging to create a stand out pack on the shelf.

At Fruit Logistica PA will be exhibiting the fastest most energy efficient single lane tray sealing machine on the market today which produces the lowest cost per pack.

The Revolution machine has been specifically designed for packing all varieties of fruit and vegetables and incorporates truly novel technology enabling it to surpass all previous single lane tray sealing products with speeds of up to 200 packs per minute which is at least 40% faster than the closest competing product and 20% quicker than high speed twin lane machines.

PA have extended their range of tray sealing machines and have developed SkinPAC the revolutionary pack format for enhanced presentation, preservation and protection of fresh products such as meat and fish. The SkinPAC system of sealing uses a highly transparent barrier film that wraps tightly around the product like a second skin and forms a seal with the bottom of the tray. This pack format offers high visibility vacuum packs aimed at improving shelf life, better product quality and packaging reduction with the use of a shallower tray than would otherwise be possible.
