Zero Waste to Landfill since 2017

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

We are thrilled and proud to have once again been awarded ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ for 2020. Something we have achieved now every year since 2017!

As a manufacturer we are keen to support our customers to reduce their carbon footprint and environmental impact so it was only natural that we should take a long hard look at our own operation to try and better understand how we too could make our own contribution to a greener planet.

We first reached out to ACM in 2016 for their assistance to help us improve our waste management. Back then we had to empty a very full staff carpark weekly just to allow skip lorry access, causing major disruption to the production process. It just did not make sense for lots of reasons.

ACM helped us identify and establish new working practices including improved waste containers that could be wheeled into the factory to be filled and then wheeled out straight past the parked cars on bin day. New ‘space saving’ stacking containers were provided for swarf on a ‘merry-go-round’ exchange basis, a small baler provided to reduce cardboard storage space. ACM has also greatly increased the rebate the business obtains for valuable non-ferrous metals.

With ACM’s ‘ESP’ reporting systems in place we now regularly report our green credentials to our global customer base.

As we continue to work towards supporting the net zero carbon UK manufacturing targets, we hope to achieve this award in future years. #makeitgreen
